What is CBD and why is everyone talking about it?!

CBD- Everyone is talking about it and everyone is taking it!

But what is it, and what is SO great about it?!

CBD is short for Cannabidiol ; one of the many phytocannabinoids found in the Cannabis plant. CBD does not posses the same psychoactive properties as its close relative, THC; hence no intoxicating effects. Cannabidiol was first discovered by Dr. Roger Adams at the University of Illinois in 1940; and until recently, not much was known about it's medicinal uses or benefits.

It is now known that both THC (the main psychoactive ingredient in Cannabis), and CBD, interact with the Endocannabinoid System. The Endocannabinoid System, also known as ECS, regulates multiple vital functions. ECS receptors (CB1 and CB2) are scattered all over the body- CB1 receptors are found predominantly but not exclusively at the central and peripheral nerve terminals, while CB2 receptors are mainly found on tissues derived from the immune system. Our bodies were designed to interact with cannabinoids!

Hemp derived CBD is legal in all 50 states; Any plant tested at .3% THC or below is considered Hemp-- high CBD content, with only small traces of THC.

The information available can be overwhelming-- there are few "solid" sources, the research is lacking. Despite that, anecdotal evidence and testimonials are booming!  SO many people are finally finding relief.

CBD is now often recommended as a safer alternative to pharmaceuticals, when treating various symptoms and conditions.

CBD is commonly used to treat / ease the symptoms of:

  • Epilepsy
  • Chronic pain
  • Stress
  • Arthritis
  • Crohn's
  • Insomnia
  • PTSD
  • IBS
  • Alzheimer's
  • Cancer
  • MS

...just to name a few. With a lengthy list of medicinal properties, it is a safe and effective alternative for many ailments. Those properties include but are not limited to:

  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Anti-depressant
  • Neuroprotectant
  • Antiemetic
  • Analgesic
  • Vasorelaxant
  • Anticonvulsant
  • Antispasmodic
  • Anxiolytic

Despite the lack of studies and official research, the information currently available on CBD and it's many medicinal benefits is undeniable! Taking into consideration the effectiveness; and minimal risk of adverse reactions and side effects-- it is a perfect option for many!
